This page is mainly for IT teams testing interviews on corporate networks.
Overview
See Participant Troubleshooting for complete troubleshooting guide.
This document covers additional technical considerations.
Browser Compatibility Testing
Pre-Deployment Tests
Media recording test:
- Confirm the camera and microphone can be accessed in the browser
- Record a short test response and check it uploads
Connection check:
- Verify a stable internet connection
- Video responses need a stronger connection than audio or text
Network Configuration
Connection Guidance
- Text only: works on any connection.
- Audio: works on home Wi-Fi and modern mobile data.
- Video: needs a stronger, more stable connection. Wi-Fi or a cable/fibre connection is recommended; on a slow or unstable connection, keep video responses short.
Corporate Network Issues
Common Problems
Media recording blocked:
- Symptom: Camera/microphone don't work
- Solution: Allow HTTPS media uploads
SSL inspection:
- Symptom: Uploads fail or corrupt
- Solution: Exclude tellet.ai from SSL inspection
Proxy authentication:
- Symptom: Can't connect
- Solution: Configure browser proxy credentials
Content filter:
- Symptom: UI elements missing
- Solution: Whitelist tellet.ai in content filter
Firewall Configuration
Required outbound access:
- HTTPS (port 443) to tellet.ai domains
- WebSocket connections to tellet.ai domains
- HTTPS media uploads to tellet.ai
Domains to whitelist:
Media Format and Upload Notes
Video responses are the largest to upload, followed by audio, then text and images. If an upload is struggling on a slow connection, recording shorter video responses usually helps.
Recorded video and audio are saved in a format chosen automatically for the participant's browser (typically WebM on Chrome, Firefox, and Edge; MP4 on Safari). This happens behind the scenes — participants don't need to do anything.
Images and files (uploaded from device):
- JPEG, PNG, GIF, and MP4 are supported
- Other formats (e.g. HEIC, WebP) are not accepted — capture as JPEG or use the in-interview camera
Browser- and Device-Specific Issues
See Participant Troubleshooting for full step-by-step fixes. Key points:
- Safari — strict privacy settings or cross-site tracking prevention can block functionality, and older iOS can have video-recording issues. In Safari > Settings > Privacy, uncheck "Prevent cross-site tracking" and allow cookies for tellet.ai.
- Chrome — extensions and many open tabs can interfere; disable extensions, close tabs, and clear site data.
- Firefox — Enhanced Tracking Protection can block features (toggle it off). On Android, Firefox has known camera and microphone issues — use Chrome for the best experience.
- iOS — camera permissions can be more involved to enable (Settings > Safari > Camera/Microphone > Allow). On a slower connection or older device, keep video responses short.
- Android — uploads can fail on slow connections and behaviour varies by manufacturer; use Wi-Fi, close background apps, and keep Chrome up to date.
Performance Optimisation
- Slow devices — use text instead of video, close other tabs, disable browser extensions, restart the browser.
- Slow networks — record shorter video responses, use Wi-Fi instead of mobile data, close bandwidth-heavy apps.
