How do screening questions work?
Screening questions appear before the main interview and filter participants based on qualification criteria. Participants answer all screening questions first. The system evaluates each answer in real time, question by question. If a participant gives a disqualifying answer, they are immediately excluded and do not see the next question. Maximum 25 screening questions per project. Screening is optional.
What types of screener questions are available?
Single-select (participant picks one option from a list, minimum 2 answer options).
Multi-select (participant can pick multiple options, minimum 3 answer options).
Numeric (participant enters a number, you define a qualifying minimum and/or maximum range).
What rules can I assign to screener answers?
Qualify: participant meets the criteria and can continue.
Disqualify: participant is excluded immediately when this answer is selected.
Irrelevant: response is recorded but does not affect qualification for that question.
Important: on a single-select question, selecting an Irrelevant answer disqualifies the participant immediately, the same as Disqualify. On a multi-select question, if the participant selects any Disqualify answer they are excluded immediately; if they select at least one Qualify answer (and no Disqualify), they pass; if they select only Irrelevant answers they are excluded.
How does multi-question screening logic work?
Evaluation is sequential and per-question in real time. A participant who gives a disqualifying answer on Q1 never sees Q2. To pass screening a participant must pass every question. Question order matters: place your most critical qualifying criteria first to avoid showing unnecessary questions to ineligible participants.
Can I set quotas within screening?
Yes, on single-select questions. Enable the quotas toggle for a question, then assign a quota percentage to each qualifying answer option. The percentages must sum to 100%. The system tracks completions per answer and redirects new participants to a quota-full outcome once each target is hit. A 10% buffer applies. Quotas apply to single-select questions only; multi-select and numeric do not support per-option quotas.
What is the 10% buffer on max participants and quotas?
The system allows up to 10% more respondents than your configured maximum before blocking new participants. For example, if you set a max of 100, the link stays active until 110 completed interviews are recorded. This accounts for panel delivery timing where multiple participants may be sent simultaneously. Account for this buffer when coordinating panel orders.
Can I randomise the order of screening answers?
Yes. Enable the Randomise answer order toggle per question to reduce primacy and recency bias. Do not randomise ordered scales, age ranges, or options with a logical sequence.
Can I set quotas by gender, age, or market?
At the platform level, quotas are managed via the screening quota feature on single-select questions. Broader demographic quotas (age, gender, location) can also be set at the panel level with your panel provider.
Can I target specific demographic or behavioural groups?
Yes. Use screening questions to capture demographics or behaviours at the start, then filter results by those variables after fieldwork. Alternatively, target through recruitment criteria with your panel provider.
